Yoji is a non-playable character who appears in Breath of Fire II. He is the headmaster of HomeTown's magical academy, M.School, and his pupils include Nina and an incognito Bleu.

Role in Breath of Fire II

Yoji lives and teaches at M.School, a house of learning dedicated to teaching its pupils the magical arts. He also serves as the establishment's headmaster and presumably oversees the discipline of its students. When Nina violates the school rules by using magic outside of class in order to scare off the Joker Gang, she later comes to Yoji to confess. However, members of the gang interrupt the conversation to announce that they have kidnapped Mina and will only release her if Nina agrees to become Joker's slave. Yoji asks Ryu and Katt to help Nina rescue her sister and defeat the gang.

Personality

While Yoji enjoys a reputation as a capable magician, he is unpopular among his students due to the overwhelming amount of homework he assigns. In spite of this, Yoji demonstrates a sincere concern for his students' well-being, and when the Joker Gang reveals that they've kidnapped Mina, he beseeches the party to help rescue her. He also recognizes Nina as a powerful magician in the making and fears what Joker would be capable of doing should she become his pawn.

Etymology

Yoji's Japanese name (ヨーヂ) is very similar to the Japanese spelling of Yoda (ヨーダ), the Jedi master of the Star Wars series who also helps train young pupils in the mystical arts. It is possible that his name was intended as a reference to that character.
