Story[]

When Ryu and Garr are traveling on Ogre Road, they run into this monster and are forced to fight it until it flees. Ryu encounters the Weretiger again in the Cedar Woods, where it's revealed that the Weretiger is really just Rei, who can't completely control his Weretiger form.

Rei attacks Syn City in his Weretiger form and confronts Mikba shortly afterwards. Rei joins the party after defeating Mikba and can use his Weretiger form in battle at will, but he can't control it.

Trivia[]

  • Rei's Weretiger form is hinted early when both Ryu and Teepo caught up to him on Mt. Glaus and it's implied that Rei could already transform into the Weretiger form even when he was younger. Bunyan also seems to be aware of it, as it may have been the real reason he sent Rei up to Mt. Glaus alone. Since Rei refused to transform into it when Ryu and Teepo were right there with him, likely out of fear of accidentally hurting or even killing them, he does not use it and it's not seen until the Adolescence/Adult part of the game.
  • Using a gameshark to add the Weretiger ability to Rei in the child chapters reveals, that he has completely functional set of unused sprites for the transformation. It can be argued, that the Weretiger ability was removed early due game balance issues, as it would make the first chapters too easy with the influence skill.
