The Ventriloquist is a non-playable character who appears in Breath of Fire IV. She is a traveling performer she moves from town to town, where her act involves throwing her voice so that her monstrous puppet appears to dispensing useful information and answer her audience's questions. The party in encounters her several times throughout the game as they progress from town to town.[1]

Role in Breath of Fire IV[]

The Ventriloquist is first encountered in Sarai, near the town's entrance. She holds a green puppet and provides a tutorial of some game mechanics such as: how to learn skills from enemies, navigating the overworld, combat, and combo attacks.

The second time the player encounters the Ventriloquist is in Kyria, this time with a purple puppet in hand. Here she gives the player basic knowledge on things like: ranks, the master system, camping, and how to organize skills. They next encounter her in Sarai in the building connecting to the waterwheel. This time they will give information on: connecting hits, combo hits, extra combo effects, and enemies that change such as the Drake when it's exposed to a fire based attack.

The Ventriloquist makes her final appearance in Shyde, where she carries a red puppet. Here she provides you with the Shift ability, which is the games version of Warp, allowing the player to travel to any town or city that the player has already visited. The Ventriloquist can also give you information on ancient dragons and transforming into a dragon during battle.
