The music for Capcom games has always been an integral part of the experience, and the Breath of Fire series is no exception.

Each Breath of Fire title features a unique grouping of composers from the Capcom Sound Team, with some exceptions.

Recurring themes[]

"The Journey Begins - Breath of Fire" / 『旅出~ブレスオブファイア~』[]

Composed by Mari Yamaguchi, "The Journey Begins - Breath of Fire" is Breath of Fire's first overworld / world map theme until "Distant View" replaces it after the Stone Robot segment. This theme is reintroduced as the world map theme before the party goes to the Obelisk final dungeon.

This theme was arranged by Yuko Takehara for Breath of Fire II as "Breath of Fire", where it is used as the second overworld theme after the party captures Patty at the end of the SimaFort segment. The theme is also used after defeating the final boss, as the party exits its lair. Takehara also includes part of the motif from this theme in the Breath of Fire II ending credits / staff roll, "Thank You, Everyone".

"Sacred" / 『聖』[]

Composed by Mari Yamaguchi, "Sacred" plays in Breath of Fire after Ryu's party sprinkles the sacred water gathered from the Cleansing Cave onto the soil of Romero, restoring the decayed terrain to its former glory.

This theme was arranged by Yuko Takehara for Breath of Fire II, where it is used as the "Join the Party" celebratory jingle for whenever a new character joins Ryu's party.

"Skyscraper" / 『高楼』[]

Composed by Yasuaki Fujita, "Skyscraper" plays in Breath of Fire in a number of dungeons, starting with Camlon Castle prior to Ryu evicting its invasive resident, Frog.

This theme was arranged by Tamiya Terashima for Breath of Fire 6: Guardians of the White Dragon, where it is retitled "Skyscraper -KOUROU-" / 『高楼 -KOUROU-』.

"Still a Chrysalis - Sigh of the Faerie" / 『まださなぎ』[]

Composed by Yoshino Aoki, "Still a Chrysalis - Sigh of the Faerie" plays in Breath of Fire III when visiting the Faerie Village. The song morphs into an upbeat version arranged by Akari Kaida entitled "Breaking the Mold - Sigh of the Faerie II" / 『だっぴするよう』 after the village grows more prosperous.

Yoshino Aoki reuses this composition as the Faerie Village theme again in Breath of Fire IV, where it is arranged and titled as "The Faeries" / 『ようせいだよう』.

"Steam Locomotion" / 『スチーム・ロコモーション』[]

Composed by Yoshino Aoki, "Steam Locomotion" plays in Breath of Fire III when sailing by ship.

Yoshino Aoki reuses this composition as the boat/ship theme again in Breath of Fire IV, where it is arranged in a more orchestral way and entitled "Sailing by Ship" / 『お船でGo!』.
