Mothro is a boss enemy that appears in the original Breath of Fire.

Role in Breath of Fire

The party encounters Mothro as they make their way through Mogu's dream. The creatures serves as one of the area's two boss battles and is the cause of Mogu's nightmares as coma-like sleep.

Appearance

Mothro appears as a large moth-like creature in battle. However, its sprite on the field screen takes the form of a male human child.Unlike most enemy sprites Mothro doesn't have typical movement animations. Similar to Mote and part of Tyr, his battle appearance is part of the background, due to enabling certain graphical effects (Mote, Mothro) or memory capacity (Tyr).

Strategy

Mother is one of the bosses that will occasionally dodge attacks. Its own attacks, such as its paralysis spell, will also miss from time to time. Use these moments to heal if necessary.

Etymology

Its English name Mothro may be a reference to the kaiju Mothra who appears in numerous Toho monster movies.
