Mote is a boss enemy that appears in the original Breath of Fire. He is a former member of the Dirt-Eating Clan who has defected to the Dark Dragon Clan and now serves as a general in Zog's army.

Role in Breath of Fire

Mote confronts the party in the World of Dreams, but is ultimately betrayed by his own conscience, which enables Ryu and his friends to win this otherwise unwinnable fight. He is the second boss enemy in a dream-like environment within the game, the first one being Mothro in Mogu's Dream.

Strategy

Mote is an odd boss. He starts the battle looking like a few pixels. The more you hit him with physical attacks, the more pixels he gains, until his true appearance is fully revealed. However, the more pixels he gains, the more resistant he becomes to physical attacks. His weakness will adapt throughout the battle according to the attacks that the party uses. The best thing to do, is have Ryu, along with Karn in Puka form, use physical attacks. Then have Bleu cast low AP spells on him in order to keep him weak to physical attacks. Use Nina as the party's healer. If you find Mote is gaining too many pixels, have Nina aid Bleu by either casting spells like "Hold" or by using the E.Key. When Mote gains his second wind, he'll begin casting "Inferno". Nina will be very important here for keeping everyone healed, as Inferno is much more damaging than the regular attacks he uses in the first stage of the battle.
