Goddess is the final boss of Breath of Fire.

Story[]

Following Jade's defeat, the party battles the Goddess Tyr is faced as the game's final boss. When the party first reaches her, they discover the goddess in the form of a young girl, and she asks whether or not they have a wish that they'd like her to grant. If the player answers "yes," the party will have their HP & AP fully recovered. If they answer "no," the party enters a battle against the goddess. Tyr pleads with the party in a scared tone to stop attacking her, claiming that she means well and wants the party to be her friends. In this initial phase of the battle, she does not attack the party and can be defeated without triggering retaliation.

After Goddess's initial defeat, Sarah will appear in spirit and urge Ryu to use Agni in order to reveal Tyr's true form. Tyr protests against this, and initiates the second phase of the battle, taking on an angered appearance. If this phase is defeated without the use of Agni, a post-credits scene will reveal that Tyr is still alive. If she is attacked by Ryu's Agni form in either of these phases, the Goddess becomes outraged by the party's defiance reveals her true demonic form. Defeating her in this form triggers the game's true ending in which party triumphs over the Tyr, causing the Obelisk to collapse.

Strategy[]

The Goddess can be a tough or easy battle depending on how the player fights her or at which phase she is fought. What can be said for certain is that the battles will be long because of the Goddess' massive HP pool in either her human or monster form. If battled with a poor party, it can take 30-60 minutes to defeat her.

If fighting her human form, the player is recommended to use the likes of the Rudra dragon form, Karn's Puka fusion, Bleu's offensive spells and Nina's healing spells.

The Goddess will use single target normal attacks or Blizzard to cause major damage to the entire party. The player should attack with their strongest attacks and heal regularly as the battle will take long. There is no second phase during her human form.

In her monster form, the Goddess will attack similarly, using a strong normal attack that can hit between 100-200 damage, Big Crash for 70 damage to the entire party, and an unnamed attack resembling an energy sphere that can inflict several hundred damage, her second phase starts after taking roughly 2,000 damage. Although attack the goddess with Agni is necessary in order to get her to transform into her final form, it is possible to defeat the goddess without otherwise using Agni, although this makes the fight significantly more challenging. Conversely, a relatively easy way to win this battle it so use Agni in Auto-Battle. Agni will always inflict 999 damage and due to Agni's massive HP count and high stats the Goddess is unlikely to ever deal lethal damage with any of her attacks. If using this strategy, the player should be mindful to deactivate Auto-Battle to restore their HP value with the likes of Cure when they are close to 1/3 of their HP or so, and then resume their Agni transformation afterwards. Doing this significantly reduces the risk of defeat and will provide a rather easy victory over the monstrous Goddess.

Once the goddess in her second phase, if her health is reduced to below 1,000 without the use of Agni, a glitch can be triggered. Transforming into Agni and landing the finishing blow with its attack will cause her sprite to disappear without ending the battle. The player can then continue to attack the now-invisible Goddess, causing a variety of glitched effects.
