Faeries are a recurring tribe that appears throughout the Breath of Fire series. They reside in the world of dreams. The world of dreams partially overlaps with the real world and, long ago when the world was created, became a kind of "connector." Due to the odd connection, ordinary people can't go to the world of dreams. Faeries are genderless.[1]
Breath of Fire[]
Faeries live in a forest in the south of Tantar. They cast a spell on a lumberjack from Auria that was cutting down the trees in their forest for the black dragons. After you talk with the lumberjack's mother and she ask you to help him you go back and ask them to save him.
Breath of Fire III[]
A faerie, Cadis is initially encountered after the party repairs the Lighthouse in the Rhapala Region. The faeries had sabotaged the Lighthouse because it was attracting a monster, the Dolphin, to their village. Cadis tries to undo the player's repairs but fails and the Lighthouse remains lit. This prompts it to give Ryu the Faerie Tiara, which is used to reach the Faerie Village, as well as to demand the party comes kill the Dolphin for the faeries. After killing the Dolphin, Ryu is asked to oversee the development of the Village. Another faerie, Meryleep can subsequently become a master for the party, provided the player has found the Flower Jewel and shows it upon talking to it.
Breath of Fire IV[]
A group of faeries pull a prank on the party by shrinking Nina, while the party is traveling to the Wyndia region. While shrunken, Nina is abducted by a bird. When attempting to flee, the bird attacks her, but she manages to fend it off. After she faces the Giant Bird, the faeries' spell wears off and Nina grows back to her normal size, landing on Ryu in the process. When searching for a metal called the Faerie Drop to make a new King's Sword, the party helps the faeries rid their world of dream monsters, and in exchange they receive a Faerie Drop.
The game's faerie village is initially inhabited by four faeries. They can be found in the Dream World after helping them get rid of the dream monsters. Another faerie, Njomo, lives outside the village with its husband. Much like Meryleep in the previous game, it also serves as a master.
Faeries have three different attributes that will define which job they are suitable for within the village. These attributes are:
- Endurance - Faeries with higher endurance is described as suitable for hunting food and building the Faeries' houses
- Knowledge
- Style
Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter[]
A Faerie can be found imprisoned in a cell in the BioCorp Lab. Once you rescue it, you gain access to the Colony.
Breath of Fire 6[]
The Faerie Nana lives in the Risen Mountains.
