Blocking
This section is based on English Wikipeda's blocking policies
Blocking prevents an editor from editing the project. Blocking is done to prevent disruption, not as a mean to punish an editor.
Rationales for blocks
A user may be blocked in response to:
- Vandalism
- Personal attacks
- Spamming
- Harassment
- Persistent violations of project and FANDOM policies
Blocks should never be used to calm a user down, or to silence an opposing party during an edit dispute. It only makes things worse.
Procedure
Assume good faith. Assume that the editor is trying to improve the project, not hurt it. Try to educate the user on the policies. As unregistered users do not have message wals, try educating them through edit summaries. Users acting in bad faith whose only activity is disrupting the project may be blocked immediately.
The duration of a block depends on the severity of the behaviour, and whether they have engaged in similar behavior before.
Registered users should be made aware of their block, and the reason why they are blocked. Block reasons should be clear, and easy to understand. This can be done by leaving a message on their message wall.
IP addresses should never be blocked indefinitely without a good reason. Consider a shorter block first, then extending the length for subsequent blocks. If uncertain, the sequence 31 hours - 72 hours - 1 week - 3 weeks - 1 month - 3 months - 6 months - 1 year - (+ 1 year for every next block) can be used.
Appealing
Registered users may appeal their blocks by leaving an unblock request on an administrator's message wall. The administrator may then review the unblock request and decide whether to accept the request and unblock the user, shorten the block duration, or decline the request. Misuse of the message wall may result in the removal of the editor's message wall privileges.
