The video cassette was most likely issued to retailers to play within their stores in Japan prior to the release of the game on April 3, 1993.

This tape features a Japanese narration explaining the premise, plot, characters, and gameplay of Breath of Fire. Some of the footage features elements that were changed in the final game, such as a particular cutscene involving Bo during the prologue.

Additionally, four tracks from Breath of Fire's score are used in the video: "Culvert", "Distant View", "Expedition", and "Battling". The versions of the music exhibited in this cassette are the original versions of the tracks prior to being down-sampled for the Super Famicom / Super Nintendo.
